How-to Connect a PS2's HDD to the PC

There are several ways on how to connect the HDD to the PC.

Internal IDE ribbon
Note: You must set the hdd's jumper to the correct placement:
Primary IDE
  • Master - PC's hdd is usually here, dont disconnect this!
  • Slave - you can disconnect your 2nd PC's hdd if one is present
Secondary IDE
  • Master - CD/DVD drive is usually here, dont disconnect if your installing from disc
  • Slave - you can disconnect this if theres something present
You should replace the jumper to Master before re-connecting in the PS2

USB to IDE Cable:
You shouldnt need to change the jumper, it should be set to Master already. Follow the instructions that came with the cable.

USB removable drive Enclosure:
Make sure you purchase the 'removable drive' model, or you wont be able to put it inside the PS2 !
You shouldnt need to change the jumper, it should be set to Master already. Follow the instructions that came with the enclosure.
The USB enclosure is by far the best method to use, but using the IDE ribbon is best for cost, as most PCs now have up to 4 drive connections available.
